VAG CAN Commander goes beyond what the factory tool can do and therefore is something a novice should not play with as you may mess up the control module requiring it's replacement. VCDS only supports the functions built into the modules that were intended by the designers for diagnosing problems and effecting repair of those problems. VCDS (VAG-COM) is the factory equivalent of the diagnostic scan tool that runs on your PC. VAG CAN Commander is a tool used to retrieve and modify information from the program area of the ECU. By the way, genuine vag commander is nothing like vag com, main thing about vag commander is that you can modify (fix) mileage, scan for your secret key code (SKC) <- that feature only works with cars up to 2006. Every month i do a scan and mess around with the settings, no problem if i mess anything up as i have the original car codes stored Im actually tired of dealers prices to scan my car so i bought vag com. How ever, genuine vag com makes life easier, you actually get up to date, great and rapid support from ross tech them selves (think you may need to order direct from them for this) What i am trying to say is that the cable is a hazard. Sorry to discuss vag commander but yes, the ebay cable is illegal, going ahead and buying it is too (im sure) if you do, there is no guide to help you on using it as most of the language is screwed up, if you manage to mess around with the cheap cable, you can do some SERIOUS DAMAGE to the electronial parts, main one including the ECU. Go for a genuine VAG COM lead, you will accept that it was the best bit of hardware you ever invested in. With some experience on the cheap cable from ebay, i wouldnt recommend it mate. Should I go for that or VCDS, particularly when I am going to have MK6 Golf shortly. On Ebay there is a VAG K+CAN Commander complete with USB and Micro Donggle for about £ 70.
VW charges around £ 80 for diagnostic alone so thinking to invest either in VCDS or VAG CAN!Īny help and guidance will be appreciated. At cold start no glow plug sign however, when engine warms up a little, the glow plug sign start flashing!!! Maybe something to do with temprature sensor.
Passat is showing flashing glow plug for quite some time, original diagnostic suggested injector problem but that turned out few seals around injector so saved a bill from approx £ 700 to £ the glow plug sign is still on, though engine is not loosing power. I have a passat 2005 (55 reg) and recently booked Golf S 1.6 TDI under scrappage scheme for my other better half. Could somebody please guide me what is the difference between VCDS and VAG CAN?
